Snowflake Girl aka Dr Jonna Hakkila
I am a Professor in Industrial Design at Faculty of Art and Design at the University of Lapland in Northern Europe.
I have travelled to over 30 countries.
I enjoy hiking, snowboarding and scuba diving.
My big loves are history and science fiction.
I am a horrible cook.
I completed a Zero Gravity flight with European Space Agency ESA for a student outreach project.
Just recently, I was snowboarding with Oculus to experience virtual reality in-the-wild!
I am a Professor in Industrial Design at the University of Lapland, Finland, which is in the Arctic Circle where the sun doesn’t set at all in the Summer, and where -30 degrees Celsius is a normal Winter's day.
I also lead the User Experience research team at the Center for Internet Excellence, University of Oulu, Finland, where we concept and prototype different futuristic applications and technologies around 3D, virtual reality, wearable computing and smart cities. In 2007-2011 I was a research team leader at the Nokia Research Center, which was a nice mixture of hectic business life and outreaching research projects.
In addition to Finland, my research career has taken me to also live in Australia, USA and Germany. My passion is user-centric design, and envisioning and exploring how people can use technology more easily both now and in the future. I have published over 70 research papers, and been involved in organising several international conferences around the world. I am also a co-founder of a user experience design house Soul4Design.
